About the event

Congress Heights Arts and Culture Center (CHACC) is so excited to announce, after a mini hiatus due to the pandemic, it is finally celebrating its 2nd Juneteenth Celebration and Fundraiser and can’t wait to see you back in person.

Festivities will be held on Saturday, September 17th at the former Old Congress Heights School at 3100 Martin L. King Jr. Ave SE, Washington, DC 20032.

CHACC (affectionately known as the Center) wouldn’t be where it is today without your past contributions and continued support. As the Center prepares for this year’s fundraiser and sponsorship drive, we are once again counting on your love offerings and monetary contributions. CHACC has dynamic programs that were produced pre-pandemic and, with your help, are ready for a reintroduction to the community.

CHACC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and a communal safe haven with a mission to expose, inspire, and educate both youth and adults to the rich art’s cultural opportunities, specifically in Wards 7 and 8, from a historical and modern day prospective.

Since opening its doors in 2015, CHACC has created a unique space to promote health and economic wellness through the practice of art. All of the Center’s programming is curated to uniquely serve the East of the River Community. CHACC's Executive Director, Ms. Keyonna Jones, has created a space + programming that provides what she believes was needed while growing up East of the River.

CHACC intentionally serves children who are from low-income households, in the surrounding communities. One of the highest priorities at CHACC is the inclusion and participation of low-income residents East of the River, particularly in Cluster 39. Children and youth from these communities and schools have actively participated in programs at the Center throughout the years. CHACC opens its doors to everyone, especially youth, as an unbiased venue meant for enlightenment, support, creativity, passion and feelings.

CHACC strives to fill the gap by keeping our kids active in art and cultural activities. A key component of its programs are the inclusion of information highlighting the contributions of African Americans to society, particularly, in arts and culture. Due to the fact that the majority of the Center’s participants are African-Americans, it is imperative for CHACC to provide them with reflections of themselves and promote the association of success with people from the same ethnic group. CHACC creates space for not just artistic expression, but promotes public art for the betterment of our neighborhood and provides space for small business entrepreneurs to enhance their economic stability through their artistic talents.
